True Watchmen

This is a warning that God is highlighting to us from 2 Peter Chapters 1-3.

Confusion arises when watchmen are like dogs – digging in the garbage of social media and yapping with fear fed by lies, conspiracy theory and malicious political agenda.
During  social isolation and these days between Passover and Pentecost, God is  giving His watchmen opportunity to pause. God is calling us to listen in the silence of a Selah pause of God.
There are tumultuous sounds on our screens – coming from fear, imposing political propaganda and conspiracy manipulation. If we engage with this we are in danger of distraction and contamination and this can taint the purity of our sight and voice as watchmen.
We each only see in part. God is calling us to fix our eyes  on Jesus, and align with heaven to issue a pure sound with the prophetic power to still the noise around us and call the nations and the hearts of man to encounter and worship the living God. This sound from the life giving breath of Yahweh through us will activate the promises, change atmospheres and usher in a new era of re-formation and new beginnings.

“The true watchmen watch God.” Tom Hess

Psalm 127:1  Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.
Psalm 130:5-7 I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen for the morning, more than watchmen for the morning.
Psalm 59:9-10 O my Strength, I will watch for you, for you, O God, are my fortress. My God in his steadfast love[c] will meet me; God will let me look in triumph on my enemies.
Isaiah 52:7-8 How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news, who publishes peace, who brings good news of happiness, who publishes salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns.” The voice of your watchmen—they lift up their voice; together they sing for joy; for eye to eye they see the return of the Lord to Zion.

We all have a problem if God’s watchmen are unheard.

Jeremiah 6:17  I set watchmen over you, saying, ‘Pay attention to the sound of the trumpet!’ But they said, ‘We will not pay attention.’
Hosea 9: 7-9 The days of punishment are coming, the days of reckoning are at hand. Let Israel know this. Because your sins are so many and your hostility so great, the prophet is considered a fool, the inspired person a maniac. The prophet, along with my God, is the watchman over Ephraim, yet snares await him on all his paths, and hostility in the house of his God. They have sunk deep into corruption, as in the days of Gibeah. God will remember their wickedness  and punish them for their sins.

We all have a problem if God’s watchmen are silent.

Isaiah 62:6 On your walls, O Jerusalem, I have set watchmen; all the day and all the night they shall never be silent. 3:17-18 “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me. If I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, in order to save his life, that wicked person shall die for his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand.”

We have a problem if the watchmen are deceived and unreliable in this era of false news, false allegation, conspiracy theories and malicious  attack.

Isaiah 56:10-11 His watchmen are blind;  they are all without knowledge; they are all silent dogs; they cannot bark, dreaming, lying down, loving to slumber.  The dogs have a mighty appetite;  they never have enough. But they are shepherds who have no understanding; they have all turned to their own way, each to his own gain, one and all.
A guard dog needs to take his cues and obey what His Master is saying and is doing. A guard dog needs to discern between real and false threats. Dogs who are afraid bark inappropriately causing false warnings. Sometimes they have misinterpreted the threat and are barking at shadows. Sometimes they are looking for attention and enjoy the sound of their own voice. Persistent false warnings can drive others to distraction and diminish the integrity of their voice.
Matthew 16:6 Jesus said to them, “Watch and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”

We all have a problem if the watchmen are  treacherous.

Psalm 59:4-7, 11-15 Awake, come to meet me, and see!  You, Lord God of hosts, are God of Israel. Rouse yourself to punish all the nations; spare none of those who treacherously plot evil. Selah  Each evening they come back, howling like dogs and prowling about the city. There they are, bellowing with their mouths with swords in their lips –  for “Who,” they think,“will hear us?”
Psalm 59:11-15 Kill them not, lest my people forget; make them totter by your power and bring them down, O Lord, our shield! For the sin of their mouths, the words of their lips,  let them be trapped in their pride. For the cursing and lies that they utter,  consume them in wrath; consume them till they are no more, that they may know that God rules over Jacob to the ends of the earth. Selah Each evening they come back, howling like dogs and prowling about the city. They wander about for food and growl if they do not get their fill.
Proverbs 22:10-12 Drive out a scoffer, and strife will go out, and quarreling and abuse will cease. He who loves purity of heart, and whose speech is gracious, will have the king as his friend. The eyes of the Lord keep watch over knowledge, but he overthrows the words of the traitor.

To be credible watchmen, we need to watch what we say.

Matthew 26:41 “Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
Psalm 141:1-4 O Lord, I call upon you; hasten to me!  Give ear to my voice when I call to you! Let my prayer be counted as incense before you,  and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice! Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth;     keep watch over the door of my lips! Do not let my heart incline to any evil, to busy myself with wicked deeds in company with men who work iniquity, and let me not eat of their delicacies!

We need to learn discernment, prudence and discretion.

Proverbs 8:5-15 O simple ones, learn prudence; O fools, learn sense. Hear, for I will speak noble things, and from my lips will come what is right, for my mouth will utter truth; wickedness is an abomination to my lips. All the words of my mouth are righteous; there is nothing twisted or crooked in them. They are all straight to him who understands, and right to those who find knowledge. Take my instruction instead of silver,  and knowledge rather than choice  gold,  for wisdom is better than jewels, and all that you may desire cannot compare with her. “I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, and I find knowledge and discretion. The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate. I have counsel and sound wisdom; I have insight; I have strength.”

As watchmen we need to be patient so we are accurate in what we report.

Habakkuk 2:1-3  I will take my stand at my watchpost and station myself on the tower, and look out to see what he will say to me, and what I will answer concerning my complaint. And the Lord answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it. For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.

We all need to stay alert.

Luke 21:34-36 “But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap. For it will come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth. But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.
Romans 16:17-18 I appeal to you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and create obstacles contrary to the doctrine that you have been taught; avoid them. For such persons do not serve our Lord Christ, but their own appetites, and by smooth talk and flattery they deceive the hearts of the naive. For your obedience is known to all, so that I rejoice over you, but I want you to be wise as to what is good and innocent as to what is evil.
Galatians 5:7-16  You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? This persuasion is not from him who calls you. A little leaven leavens the whole lump.  I have confidence in the Lord that you will take no other view, and the one who is troubling you will bear the penalty, whoever he is. But if I, brothers, still preach circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been removed.  I wish those who unsettle you would emasculate themselves! For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another. But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

As sons of God, we need to seek our Father’s wisdom and deliverance from evil.

Proverbs 2: 1-15 My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of his saints. Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path; for wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul;  discretion will watch over you, understanding will guard you, delivering you from the way of evil, from men of perverted speech, who forsake the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness, who rejoice in doing evil and delight in the perverseness of evil, men whose paths are crooked, and who are devious in their ways.

Sons hear what the Father is saying and do what the Father is doing.

Proverbs 8:32-35 “And now, O sons, listen to me: blessed are those who keep my ways. Hear instruction and be wise, and do not neglect it. Blessed is the one who listens to me,  watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors. For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the Lord,”
John 5:19 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of his own accord, but only what he sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise.
John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

Precious Watchmen of God

1 Timothy 6:11-12 …you are God’s man, so run from all these errors. Instead, chase after true holiness, justice, faithfulness, love, hope, and tender humility. So fight with faith for the winner’s prize! Lay your hands upon eternal life, for this is your calling—celebrating in faith before the multitude of witnesses!
Philippians 4:8-9  Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.
